Fleet platforms often center on vehicle location, ELD compliance, telematics, cameras, driver safety, maintenance, fuel and asset visibility.
Where telematics fits
Telematics is the vehicle-data layer: GPS, engine and driver data, routing, diagnostics and connected hardware. It can be part of a broader fleet platform and can feed a TMS, but it does not automatically replace freight operations software.
Where they overlap
Modern vendors increasingly expand across categories. That makes integration quality and duplicate-tool cost important buying questions. A fleet can be better served by connecting two strong systems than by forcing one product to become an all-in-one stack.
Simple buying rule
If the main pain is dispatch, loads and back-office freight workflow, start with TMS research. If the main pain is vehicle visibility, safety, ELD or cameras, start with fleet-management or telematics research.
